What is vacuum bagging?

vacuumbagging is the consolidation of the epoxy and glass layers using vacuum.

The wet epoxy/glass is placed inside a bag with absorbent material. Under vacuum, the excess epoxy is squeezed out of the glass and into the absorbent material. Once set, the absorbent material is removed and a thinner laminate remains.

Why vacuum bag?

vacuum bagging produces a lighter boat without any loss in strength. A lighter boat will accelerate faster, has a higher payload capacity, is more fuel efficient and requires a smaller vehicle to tow. Lighter trimarans are prefered by racers who want top performance.
